Medical background
Dr Fabio Vieira completed his medical studies in 1999 in a public university in Brazil called the School of Medicine of Botucatu (FMB), which is part of a bigger institution, the State University of Sao Paulo (UNESP). It is an outstanding university which has been in the top 10 medical schools in Brazil for decades. It is recognised not only for its high levels of teaching but also for its basic and clinical research.

After graduating in 1999, Dr Vieira started his specialisation in family and community medicine at the Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP). The University is also well known for intense research, producing renowned publications and a close involvement with its own hospital. It has also been repeatedly recognised as one of the 10 best medical schools in Brazil.
Dr Vieira developed a concomitant interest on Healthcare management and in 2002 completed an speacialization at University of Sao Paulo (USP), one of the top universities from Latin America, developed in cooperation with OPAS.
In 2004, he was awarded the title of specialist by the Brazilian Society of Family and Community Medicine and
Brazilian Medical Association, after completing its required examination and fulfilling the society’s academic and clinical requirements.
Over subsequent years, he focused on my continued professional development on Family Medicine internationaly attending the UK Annual conferences of General Practitioners organized by the Royal College of GPs in Edinburgh (2007) and Glasgow (2009).
As part of this healthcare management part of his career in 2009 he participated on a discipline of Health Economics at
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Special interest and late career
Dr Vieira also developed a special interest in chronic pain and have been worked on his professional development by attending and lecturing in international conferences on this topic since 2009.
As a member of the Brazilian Society of Family and Community Medicine, he had the honour to be invited to participate in the first edition of the Family Medicine Handbook, recognized by Wonca (World Organization of Family Doctors in the chapter entitled Chronic Pain Management published in 2012. The book was nominated by the Brazilian Book Chamber for an award in the health sciences category in 2013. The second edition of the handbook was published in 2018, in which he updated the chapter that he originally authored with most recent developments in chronic pain.
Continuing his academic development and interest in the UK and distinct health systems worldwide, Dr Vieira completed with merit in 2017 his master’s degree in International Health Management at Imperial College London. Since then he lives in London, what gave a deep understanding of Britain's National Health System, and shares his time along the year between Brazil and UK.
On the last years Dr Vieira worked with telemedicine seeing patients from Brazil for the Notredame Intermedica group and during the Covid-19 pandemics he also worked in hospitals in Sao Paulo from the Brazilian Health System (SUS).
